Please remember that there is NO SCHOOL on Monday, October 8.  It is a Professional Development Day for our teachers.
As all of our teachers will be learning and creating, EDP is NOT available.

PICTURE RETAKE DAY IS OCTOBER 11
Your child came home with an order form for the individual pictures that they took on Picture Day. If you're happy with how the picture turned out, you can go ahead and submit an order form for it. If you're not happy with how the picture turned out, you can submit a request for your child to do a retake on this Thursday, October 11th

Orders are due by October 10th. I would suggest ordering online, but if you would prefer to write a check and turn the form into your teacher, that is also an option.

Friday, October 19 PUMPKIN CARVING NIGHT: This is one of Lower School's favorite events.  We all have dinner, choose a pumpkin, carve a wonderful jack-o-lantern, and enjoy each others' company. Look for the invitation attached to the email accompanying the blog.

Garage Door Information
Please remember that the garage door will be locked to everyone who does not have an electronic keycard as of October 20. We are issuing these to anyone on approved pick-up list of our Early Childhood and Lower School students. If you have not done so already, please visit the receptionist to go through our Raptor system which does a basic criminal background check which takes about 60 seconds.  Once this check has been complete, you will receive the key card.  If you do not do this, you will not be able to access the garage and will have to come in the main door of the building.

CHESS TOURNAMENT Sat. November 3rd Kings and Queens, who provide chess instruction to our children is having a chess tournament on November 3rd in Wheeling.  Your children do not have to part of our chess program to participate. Everyone who knows chess is welcome from novices to experts. I have attached their flyer to the email accompanying the blog.

PICTURES THIS WEEK: I will be putting a lot of pictures on the blog at different places, but there will always be more at the bottom of the blog.

1. Wednesday was Roycemore Day.  It was so much fun.  We all celebrated the 103rd anniversary of the opening of Roycemore in 1915.  It was so nice to see so many parents celebrating with us.

2. In Lower School, we have a math block where math is traditionally taught everyday except on Thursday when the children partake in true real life math activities.  Here is when they learn that math is not just pencil and paper but in every aspect of our lives.  Last spring the fourth grade class planted pumpkins in our garden.  This year's fourth and third graders harvested the pumpkins and did all kinds of math activities with them.  Next week they bake pumpkin bread and muffins with the pulp.

3.  Sitting at a desk for six hours a day, is not good for kids.  We have choices for them which makes learning so much better.

4.  Our Early Childhood program is so enriched.  The children love playing a spider counting game as well as leading the class as they practice their zoo phonics letter sounds and motions! They also use whiteboards for vertical writing which is advantageous in numerous ways for literacy.  They practice their writing daily using the whiteboards.

Thank you in advance for caring about all of our children.

As usual, if you have any questions or comments, don't hesitate to call or e-mail me.

Everyone enjoyed pumpkin math

You can sit where you are comfortable

But, you can always sit at your desk if you want!
