This has been such a fun week in Lower School.

  1. The Spring Show, Lion King, was amazing!! Personally I have seen many many of our dance tumbling shows, and this was one of the best, if not the best!  Our 3rd and 4th graders were fabulous as they tumbled and danced with our Middle and Upper School students.

  2. Congratulations to our 3rd and 4th grade classes who won First Honors for their respective grades in the Illinois Council of Teachers of Mathematics competition for 2018-19.  Also congratulations to Juliette in 3rd Grade who placed 17th nationally in the Kangaroo Mathematics Contest.  We are so proud of everyone.

  3. The Early Childhood Spring Sing was adorable!  Thank you to Mrs. Novesky for preparing the children so well.  Everyone loved it!

4.  The 2nd Grade studied all aspects of the rainforest.  As their culminating project they each researched an animal that lives in the rainforest and created a book about the animal and their presented their research to their families and the other children in Lower School.

PICTURES THIS WEEK: I will be putting a lot of pictures on the blog at different places, but there will always be more at the bottom of the blog.

  1. Third Grade has been immersed in science the last few weeks.  Here they learned about selection and variety in science with an apple taste testing at the end. They are now learning about bridges.  Our high school physics teacher came to introduce the concept to them.

2.  Science starts with our youngest children.  Here they are doing an experiment with absorption and color, but there is always time for fun and playing.
3.  Can you guess who dressed for (F) Fancy Day in the kindergarten, the boys or the girls?

  4. Recess is important at Roycemore.  After lunch our early childhood children have an hour for recess and our older children have 45 minutes, plus lunch. We believe that kids need to move to learn.

PICTURES THIS WEEK: I will be putting a lot of pictures on the blog at different places, but there will always be more at the bottom of the blog.

1. The 4th Grade went on their annual trip to Springfield to see our state capital, and all things related to Lincoln, including the Lincoln Museum, New Salem, and the house and neighborhood in which he lived while in Springfield.  The students stayed overnight in a hotel and thoroughly enjoyed the pool!

1.  The Junior Kindergarten and Pre Kindergarten learned about beekeeping!  Mr Alex, Mr. Bailey's cousin, came to talk about beekeeping! The children were so excited!  They learned so much about bees!!!  He even brought a honeycomb.

2. Every week besides their integrated units of science and social studies, the K-Kids do at least one STEM project.  In this lesson  they learned to make catapults.

3. Bees are a big topic in Lower School. The 3rd Graders compared two nonfiction articles about bees and pollination while practicing the reading skill of cause and effect.
