CARNIVAL was so much fun. Thank you to the Upper Schoolers for putting on one fabulous fun fair for all of us. This the day we celebrated Halloween at Roycemore. We all donned our costumes and had a wonderful time from our youngest to our oldest kids. Look for lots of pictures at the bottom of the blog.


ADMISSIONS OPEN HOUSE: SUNDAY, OCTOBER 28 TODAY
From 1:00-3:00 pm, Roycemore will host a fall open house. This event will showcase all Roycemore has to offer for prospective families looking for a school for either the 2019/20 school year and beyond, or for mid-year enrollment this year. If you know anyone who may be interested in Roycemore, please encourage them to attend this event. Walk-ins are more than welcome!

CONFERENCES, November 1 and 2. You should have received an email to Sign Up Genius to register for conferences. Please be aware that there will be NO SCHOOL on Friday November 2 for conferences and EDP is NOT available.


Middle School P3 (Personal Passion Project) Mini Expo
Parents are invited to stop by the library before, after, or in between their parent teacher conferences this Thursday or Friday. Displays will be set up to show what the Middle School students have been working on in P3, where they have been re-imagining spaces around the school.You are welcome to come see these displays as early as 1:30 pm on Thursday. This will show you some of what your children will be doing when they enter our fabulous Middle School.


Be a READING Superhero! ROYCEMORE'S FAMILY READING NIGHT!
READING TAKES YOU EVERYWHERE! You Are Cordially Invited to Roycemore’s Family Reading Night! The Illinois State Library and the Roycemore Library are partnering to bring you a wonderful evening of reading with your family! This event is designed to offer families the opportunity to come and explore the Roycemore Library, pick out books from the collection, and read together as a family! Read all the new books and meet Ms. Fisher! All families are welcome! This is an open house – come and go as you please.
Date: Thursday, November 15, 2018 
Time: Open House – 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. 
Where: Roycemore Library Dress Up! 
Feel free to dress up as your favorite superhero and enjoy the evening!

  We are so excited to announce we will be starting 
THE LITTLEST GRIFFINS, a parent and tot class for children starting at 15 months taught by our beloved early childhood teacher Abby Ludwig.  Many of you will remember Abby who taught at Roycemore for many years before retiring to be a mommy to her twin sons.  The class will begin on Wednesday, January 9th.  Look for more information soon!

CHESS TOURNAMENT Sat. November 3rd Kings and Queens, who provide chess instruction to our children is having a chess tournament on November 3rd in Wheeling.  Your children do not have to part of our chess program to participate. Everyone who knows chess is welcome from novices to experts. The flyer was on an email accompanying the blog two weeks ago.

  1. Halloween is always a fun time at Roycemore.
2. The Pre-Kindergarteners are studying "spooky spiders".


3. In PE, the 2nd graders were doing team building. Here they are using communication and cooperation skills to balance on the “rock” to a 5 second count.
4.One of the best things in our school is the interaction of the older students with the younger.Here are some of the seventh and eighth graders being reading buddies to the K-Kids.

Because of conferences, some clubs are not meeting this week or their rooms will be changed.

Lego Club will meet Monday, October 29 in the First Grade Classroom from 3:15-4:00.
STEAM will meet Monday, October 29 in the 2nd Grade Classroom from 3:15-4:00.
Martial Arts/Tae Kwon do will meet Tuesday, October 30 in the Multi Purpose Room from 3:15-4:00.
Yoga will meet Tuesday October 30 in the LS Music Room  from 3:15-4:00. 
Sprout will meet Tuesday October 30 in the LS Art Room 118 from 3:15-5:15.
Cross Country will NOT meet Wednesday, October 31 in the Grade 3 Classroom from 3:15-4:00. (Because of Trick or Treating)
Creative Improv will meet Thursday, November 1 in the Lower School Music Room or in Room 228 from 2:00-3:00. (Both groups will be in the Music Room)
Math Club/Team will NOT meet Thursday, November 1 in Room 230 from 2:15-3:15. 
Chess Club will  meet Thursday, November 1 in the Grade 4 classroom from 3:00-4:00 (This week will be the cafeteria)
Sprout will meet Thursday, November 1 in the LS Art Room 118 from 3:00-5:15.
Fitness Fun Friday will NOT meet Friday, November 2  because of Conferences!


 A REMINDER: Please remember that Roycemore Lower School is a nut/peanut-free environment.  Please remember this when you send in birthday treats and snacks for your children.  There are many other allergies, specific to individual children, so please check with your classroom teacher before sending in treats.  PUMPKIN CARVING NIGHT was so much fun.


The pumpkins arrived in a big truck and the third and fourth graders helped take them off!

Then the fun began with dinner and carving pumpkins!!  It was truly a fabulous night.

Garage Door Information
Please remember that the garage door will be locked to everyone who does not have an electronic keycard as of October 20. We are issuing these to anyone on the approved pick-up list of our Early Childhood and Lower School students. If you have not done so already, please visit the receptionist to go through our Raptor system which does a basic criminal background check which takes about 60 seconds.  Once this check has been complete, you will receive the key card.

If you have not done the above, you will not be able to access the garage. Please come in the main door of the building.

  1. Ms. Fisher our librarian is starting something new.  She is giving out read aloud book bags to the children. The K-kids were the first group to get them.  The kids were thrilled with them -- it was like they were opening gifts!  
Comments:"I got a Star Wars book!  I love Stars Wars.""Here's a book about bees and there are bees on the bags!"It went on and on!


  2. The Pre-Kindergarten had a challenge! They had to construct something that would hold six small pumpkins!  They met the challenge!

3. Our Extended Day Program is very enriched.  Here the students  trying to see what will help their pumpkin seeds grow using materials they found in the classroom

 PUMPKIN CARVING NIGHT: 
This is one of Lower School's favorite events.  We all have dinner, choose a pumpkin, carve a wonderful jack-o-lantern, and enjoy each others' company. Look for the invitation attached to the email accompanying the blog. 
I know you will all have a wonderful time, eating dinner, carving pumpkins with your children and interacting with each other. We hope to see everyone there!

1. Be sure to see all the first-fourth graders pictures as part of our LEADER Wall next to the Dining Hall.  They are all striving to be leaders as part of our Leader in Me program.

2. The Lower School Cross Country Team took part in the Roycemore Cross Country Meet! Everyone tried hard and did their own personal best AND had a lot of fun!


3. Last week the third and fourth graders did lots of math activities with their pumpkins.  This week they baked pumpkin cake. YUM!







4. The Kindergarten loves to read with their Middle School Reading Buddie.  There is nothing better than a buddy!
