Your Kid's Gonna Be Okay
How to Build Executive Function Skills: Your Guide to Raising Confident and Competent Kids

Tuesday, May 7   7:00 p.m.

At Roycemore School (1200 Davis Street)

As parents, we're sometimes filled with dread that our kids might not make it in the world. We are now in the Age of Attention, where the key skills are the ability to choose priorities, stay focused and get things done amidst an infinity of distractions. These skills are known as Executive Function skills-- the self management abilities that children must learn in order to be motivated, productive and confident. Lifelong educator and expert in Executive Function intervention, Michael Delman, teaches parents how to equip their children with the skills they need today and for the future.

FAN Event-Lisa Damour- Wednesday at New Trier- Wilmette at 7pm
When Lisa Damour, Ph.D.'s 2016 book, Untangled: Guiding Teenage Girls Through the Seven Transitions into Adulthood, hit the stores in 2016, it immediately became a go-to resource for parents struggling to raise adolescent girls. A clinical psychologist, frequent guest on CBS News, and monthly columnist for The New York Times, Dr. Damour has a knack for identifying the behaviors and interpersonal dynamics of teenage girls that lead to so much angst and turmoil within families, schools, and communities. She's a sensitive observer, and she opened a portal into the interior lives of girls, offering parents generous insight and practical advice.

PICTURES THIS WEEK: I will be putting a lot of pictures on the blog at different places, but there will always be more at the bottom of the blog.
   1. The 4th graders had a memorable outing to an authentic French bakery and were treated to a full tea service and even met and spoke in French with the café's owner!

  2. For their rainforest unit, the second graders went to Whole Foods and completed a scavenger hunt. They were looking for products that had the Rainforest Alliance certified seal on it.

3. The Junior Kindergarten had a ball doing LadyBug Math.  They thought they were playing but they were even writing the algorithms and tally marks.
