The First-Fourth Graders celebrated the end of Leadership Week with a field trip on the Wendella Boat Architecture Tour.  You should all be so proud of your children.  I was at the end of the line as we were leaving the boat, and the captain said we had the best behaved and nicest children he has seen in a long time.

October 19 PUMPKIN CARVING NIGHT: This is one of Lower School's favorite events.  We all have dinner, choose a pumpkin, carve a wonderful jack-o-lantern, and enjoy each others' company. Look for the invitation

  BOOK FAIR HELP NEEDED!
The book fair is coming  December 10-14, and we need help to organize it!  The Roycemore Book Fair is an excellent opportunity to encourage our students' love and appreciation of awesome books!  Ms. Fisher is looking for parents to help organize the fair, and for one person to be a co-chair.  No experience necessary, just a willingness to help!  If you love books, this is a dream come true!

All proceeds from the book fair benefits the media center and allows us to purchase books, audio books, and other materials that matter to students.

Please contact Ms. Fisher ASAP at kfisher@roycemoreschool.org.  Thank you in advance for your help!

PICTURES THIS WEEK: I will be putting a lot of pictures on the blog at different places, but there will always be more at the bottom of the blog.

  1.  Our Pre-Kindergarten and Junior Kindergarten classes are so enriched. We have the ideal "play based program." The children think they are playing, but oh are they learning so much! The JKers are categorizing, which is a math skill, while the PK kids are learning their letter sounds with Zoo Phonics.  Again they are think they are playing, but they are learning so much.

2. As part of Leadership Week, our Second Graders made Kindness Heart gifts for us. We all appreciated them so much.

LEADERSHIP WEEK September 24-28 is next week.  This is the week we really focus on what it takes to be a good leader through our LEADER IN ME program. The teachers have many fun activities planned for the children that stress Stephen Covey's Seven Habits.  We then continue to focus on them all year!  We will celebrate the end of Leadership Week with a field trip on the Wendella Architecture Cruise.  This will also be an early kick-off to Theme Week in March. Can you guess the topic?

Wednesday, September 26 5:00-6:00 p.m.Book Chat: What Schools Could Be
Come and join us to discuss this interesting book by Ted Dintersmith.
You may leave your children in EDP for the hour.

LEADER OF THE WEEK
As a part of our Leader in Me Program, we are instituting a Leader of the Week for Grades 1-4. This is an opportunity for your child to share more about themselves with the rest of the Lower School and participate in some special leadership activities.  Each week of the school year there will be two or three leaders from different grade levels.

During the week your child is leader, they will be a Morning Greeter each day. They will need to arrive to school by 8:15 and stand in front of Ms. Orzoff’s office with the other leader(s) of the week.  Together the leaders will welcome students and parents to school by saying “Good Morning” and offering a high-five or wave. We all love coming to school when greeted with a friendly smile!

Your child will also create a poster to present to the entire Lower School during our Monday Morning Meeting.  They will choose one or two items to present to their peers from their poster. The poster will hang in the hallway for the week, letting others get to know more about how special they are.

Before your child is Leader of the Week you will receive an email explaining what will be needed on the poster.
Have fun!  We can’t wait to learn more about you!

October 19 PUMPKIN CARVING NIGHT: This is one of Lower School's favorite events.  We all have dinner, choose a pumpkin, carve a wonderful jack-o-lantern, and enjoy each others' company.

PICTURES THIS WEEK: I will be putting a lot of pictures on the blog at different places, but there will always be more at the bottom of the blog.

 1.  Pre-Kindergarten is a time to play, but also a time to learn in fun ways.  Here they are learning about weather by the "weather watcher" reporting what the weather is outside.  They sing a song about the weather and dress the weather monkey accordingly.  Fun activities, but so much learning!

2. As part of our Leader in Me program, we are asking all of our students to demonstrate leadership. One way is to help our dining hall staff clean the tables after eating. Next week you will see the 4th grade leading the Lower School Monday Morning Meeting.

3.Junior Kindergartners play and learn so much. If they are ready to read, they learn to read.  They also learn to speak in front of a group.  Again this is age appropriate and if they are ready. Differentiation, one of Roycemore's hallmarks starts here.

4. Learning and fun does not stop at 3:15, the end of the regular school day.  Our Extended Day Program is an enriched program for our children who stay.  We are open until 6:00pm.

It was so nice to see so many of you at Miniature School. This is one of my favorite evenings at Roycemore where you meet our fabulous faculty and hear about our challenging, progressive and differentiated curriculum, plus all the specials your children enjoy and the Leader in Me Program. It is a perfect way to meet your children's teachers and learn how you and the school can partner to help your children excel. Please remember that we are always available to talk with you for your children.

GRIFFIN BUDDIES: On Thursday the Lower School students were paired with an Upper School student who will be their special buddy all year.  They all met for the first time and celebrated with a small cupcake.  It was so adorable to see our Upper School students interacting with our younger students.

FRENCH IN LOWER SCHOOL: Everyone is really enjoying our new French program in Lower School for Kindergarteners through Fourth Grade.  This year we are also offering French to our Pre-Kindergarten and Junior Kindergarten as a lunch bunch on Thursday.  If your child is an 11:30 pickup, please talk to your teacher of how he/she can stay and enjoy French.

PICTURES THIS WEEK: I will be putting a lot of pictures on the blog at different places, but there will always be more at the bottom of the blog.

1. One the themes you will be seeing a lot of in Lower School is STEM projects.  All the students are being challenged to build and create.  Here the Kindergartners are challenged to build a house out of gumdrops to save the pig they created from the wolf.

   2. Everyone loves our Extended Day Program.  We offer a younger group and an older group for those of you who need childcare.  We open at 7:30am and close at 6:00pm with fun and engaging activities.

3 Our Pre-kindergarten and Junior Kindergarten children who stay all day,  are so lucky to have the opportunity to be in a nap room or a non-nap room.  Children who need a nap, get a nap in a quiet room. Children who have given up their naps have a rest and then participate in fun stations or centers. Every child is engaged and not bored.
