What a great opening of school we had.

We had a fabulous opening of school.  The children are happy, excited to see their friends, and are working diligently. Our Head of School Mrs. Adrianne Finley Odell spoke to the student body at our Opening of School Assembly with some truly inspiring words of how important Sharpening the Saw is to all of us.  In other words taking care of our bodies, and one way to do that is to get enough sleep, as the Griffin is doing.

The first through fourth graders celebrated the first week by having a student scavenger hunt on Friday afternoon, which was really an excuse to enjoy each others' company and enjoy a special treat of oranges.
All the children in Lower School received a new Roycemore t-shirt on Friday.  Please have your children wear it on all field trips.

There are more pictures at the end of the blog.

Roycemore School Liaison for FAN
Roycemore School is a proud partner of the Family Action Network (FAN) an organization that sponsors leading speakers to come to our community and share their wisdom with us for no admission charge. FAN connects parents, educators, and professionals through collaborative programming that educates, inspires and positively impacts the broader community. Recent speakers have included Daniel Pink, Angela Duckworth, Rep. John Lewis, Wendy Mogel, and Ta Nehisi Coates to name a few.
We are seeking a couple of Roycemore School representatives to serve on the FAN Liaison Council for the 2018-2019 school year. As a representative on this Council, you will help select speakers for the coming year. The first meeting is on Tuesday, September 4, 9:20 – 11:30 a.m. at NTHS/Northfield, Room C234, 7 Happ Road, Northfield. If you are interested, please contact Sara McGuire to let her know of your interest (smcguire@roycemoreschool.org).

FRENCH IN LOWER SCHOOL: Everyone is really enjoying our new French program in Lower School.  This year we are offering French to our Pre-Kindergarten and Junior Kindergarten as a lunch bunch on Thursday.  If your child is an 11:30 pickup, please talk to your teacher of how they can stay and enjoy French.

THE LEADER IN ME
We are in our fourth year of the Leader in Me program.  It is a very positive social, emotional learning program based on Stephen Covey’s Seven Habits of Highly Successful People.
The goal of the Leader in Me is for students to understand that they all have the essential qualities to  become leaders.  The Leader in Me also helps to create a common language within our school by teaching the students the Seven Habits. We will be also showing how the Seven Habits and our School Core Values of Scholarship, Integrity, Respect, Community and Compassion complement each other.

Teachers will be teaching the Seven Habits, imbedding them in their lessons and hopefully encouraging all the children to know that they can be leaders and do what is right.    It is a truly positive message that each child is a leader. The following is a quick overview, but they really encompass much more.

The Seven Habits:
Habit 1: Be Proactive • You're in Charge
Habit 2: Begin With the End in Mind• Have a Plan
Habit 3: Put First Things First • Work First, Then Play
Habit 4: Think Win-Win • Everyone Can Win
Habit 5: Seek First to Understand, Then to Be Understood• Listen Before You Talk
Habit 6: Synergize • Together Is Better
Habit 7: Sharpen the Saw • Balance Feels Best

Your teachers will be talking about this program in more depth on Thursday evening.  We are hoping that you too will use the language with your children.  I think you will see positive results when we are all working together for your children.

A REMINDER: Please remember that Roycemore Lower School is a nut/peanut-free environment.  Please remember this when you send in birthday treats and snacks for your children.  There are many other allergies, specific to individual children, so please check with your classroom teacher before sending in treats. Thank you in advance for caring about all of our children.

Please remember when you need more information, such as lunch menus, the weekly bulletin, and reminders of upcoming special events, go to the Parents' Page on our web site at http://www.roycemoreschool.org/parents
As usual, if you have any questions or comments, don't hesitate to call or e-mail me.
